Shoals off to the breeding barn | Breeding and Racing

Stunningly-bred triple Gr1-winning mare Shoals (Fastnet Rock-The Burning Shore, by Hussonet) will soon be one of the most celibrated mares at stud. The announcement was made by Sam Freedman, assistant trainer for Anthony Freedman, on Melbourne’s RSN 927 on Sunday, and follows Shoals pulling up sore after the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick last Saturday. Freedman intimated a conservative approach was being taken with highly valuable member of the famous Redoute’s Choice damline. Freedman said, “She is better this morning, escaping serious injury, but in any case she's retired now and has run her last race for us. She'll go off to stud now…" Shoals retires with 7 wins (inlcuding the Gr1 Myer Classic, Gr1 Surround Stakes (see below), Gr1 Sangster Stakes, Gr2 Percy Sykes Stakes, Gr3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes & Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes), and 5 placings (including the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes, Gr1 Thousand Guineas, Gr2 Thousand Guineas Prelude, Gr2 Ian McEwan Stakes & Gr2 Premier Stakes) from 15 starts for $2,535,270 in earnings. She is owned by Pinecliff Racing (Mgr: Jonathan Munz) and Arrowfield Pastoral (Mgr: John Messara).
