HP Thoroughbreds, a boutique operation nestled in the Hunter Valley of NSW, is fast building a reputation for producing top-quality yearlings with a personal touch. Specialising in hands-on horsemanship, tailored yearling preparation, and elite care, the team focuses on developing athletic, well-balanced horses ready to shine in the sale ring and beyond.
That approach was on full display at the 2024 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where HP Thoroughbreds achieved a 100% clearance rate, selling all five yearlings in their draft and notching standout results along the way.
Leading the charge was a chestnut colt by Darley’s Champion Pinatubo (IRE) out of Paarray, who fetched $380,000 from Magus Equine (Hong Kong). Out of the five-time-winning mare Paaray (by Excites), this athletic colt turned heads with his quality, strength, and ring presence–emerging as one of the top-priced lots of the sale.
“This is the biggest sales result we’ve ever had,” said HP Thoroughbreds’ Anthony Evans. “This horse could’ve gone anywhere, but Chris Russell convinced me to bring him down here, and he was right again–he stood out.”
“We were sort of hoping around the $200,000 mark. To get that amount of money for him is just amazing. He’s a true professional, he looks like a pure athlete, and I can’t wait to see what he does in the future.”
“It’s very special. The first dam and second dam were both born on our property. We bred this colt in partnership with a good friend of ours, so I’m just over the moon for him and for us.”
Also attracting strong interest was a chestnut colt by Kitchwin Hills undefeated 2YO Graff out of Childhood (USA), secured by Tasman Bloodstock for $90,000. By Lonhro, Childhood is a half-sister to no fewer than four stakes winners, including Gossamer Wings and Baby J, and has already produced Listed winner and Group placegetter Infancy (Wandjina).
HP’s Kirsten Evans added: “I’m very grateful. It’s very exciting and I love bringing horses down to this sale. We do well here–Inglis has done amazing things for our small farm, and we’re really grateful.”
With all five yearlings sold, HP Thoroughbreds wrapped up a successful sale campaign with a clean sweep–cementing their growing reputation as a trusted source of well-prepared, high-quality stock.
