Winx, the darling of Australian racing and many fans around the world, will have a new grandstand named in her honour at Randwick, the scene of many of her premium triumphs. Possibly one of the worst kept secrets in the industry after the new facility was announced around the same time as the world record holder was retired, AAP reports the new stand will overlook the Leger Lawn at around the 200m mark where she traditionally started to put her rivals to the sword. Her trainer Chris Waller said, “It is fitting that it’s at the 200 metres. That was where she used to get to the front… She’s now got a stand named after her. It is an honour.” More than 5,000 additional racegoers will have access to a grandstand following the completion of the facility for which work will begin following this year’s The Everest with a plan to have it completed for the same race in 2020. Winx could also have a statue erected at her home base, Rosehill Racecourse, a rare honour indeed.
