SMART MAIDEN WINNERS SOLD BY WIDDEN

Spendthrift Farm have been making their presence felt at Australasian yearling sales in recent years and tasted success at Wyong on Wednesday with three year-old More Than Ready (USA) filly Terminally Pretty, a $200,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft.

Prepared by Team Hawkes, Terminally Pretty was resuming from a spell following two runs last September and zoomed home from the tail of the field to claim a fast finishing half head win as favourite.

She covered the 1000 metres in a brisk 57.30 seconds and looks well worth following out of the race.

Bred by Widden Stud in partnership, Terminally Pretty (pictured as a yearling) is the second winner for US stakes-winner Moon de French (USA), a daughter of Malibu Moon, who stands at Spendthrift Farm Kentucky at a fee of $75,000.

Widden Stud will offer the current yearling from Moon de French, a colt by Sebring, at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 244.

Moon de French produced a colt last spring by Redoute’s Choice and is now in foal to Zoustar.

The opening race at Sandown on Wednesday was won in devastating fashion by three year-old filly That Rings a Bell.

Second on debut last month at Sandown when easy in the market, the Danny O’Brien trained daughter of So You Think was heavily backed this time around and gave punters no cause for concern as she strode away to win with ease.

She stalked the leader for Nicholas Hall and when asked to accelerate, dropped her rivals cold.

She charged clear to win the 1400 metre maiden by four and a quarter lengths eased down with ears pricked.

That Rings a Bell was a modest $45,000 Magic Millions Book Two purchase for her trainer from the Widden Stud draft and is the second winner for Cinnamon Bells, a full sister to former very smart Group II winner Catechuchu.
